Habitat for Humanity of Greater Baton Rouge: Women Build Bio Shelah Kemp

Shelah first learned about the Habitat program 15 years ago when her aunt became a Habitat homeowner. Even back then, she knew that she wanted to invest in her own home one day and let her kids grow up in a “family home.” Although it was a challenge to complete her requirements while working and caring for her kids, she’s now ready to start her build!

Shelah is grateful for the financial and construction skills she has gained throughout the program, and feels prepared for homeownership. She loves to hammer and paint on the build site, and is excited to hammer on her own house this fall. She is most looking forward to her kids playing safely in her own backyard, and to all of the cookouts she can host! She says the first thing she’s going to do is “cry tears of joy while thanking God for opening the door that allowed me to become a successful homebuyer. Habitat is a challenging program, BUT it’s all worth it in the end!”

Shelah would like to thank the Women Build Sponsors for making her dream come true. “I greatly appreciate your support and I’m grateful for your unselfish act of kindness.” She would also like to thank her family and the Habitat staff for supporting her through the process.
